Essay about Sociopolitical Context

 Literature as Bridge of Then and Now Noli Me Tangere was a novel written by Dr. Jose Rizal on 1887. It is a realism because it shows the true events that happened during Spanish Colonialism. This novel shows sociopolitical context such as social issues, politics, and religion. Noli Me Tangere shows the social issues as it shows how the Spanish discriminates the Filipinos and call them “indio”. The Spanish abuse Filipinos and use their power to manipulate. There are also social violence against women. They did that because they see women as week and incapable. In terms of politics, priests are mostly government officials. There are also civil guards that work with them to dominate the Filipinos who resist them. They would punish a man that will go against their will or order.
